How many grafts do I need for a hair transplant?

Only a clinic that has assessed you can say. The number depends on the area to be covered, how dense you want it to look, the quality and size of your donor area, and how your hair loss may progress. An estimate from photos is a starting point, not a promise. A higher number is not automatically better.

What the number depends on

  • The size of the area to be covered, and where the hairline will be
  • How dense the result should look
  • How many grafts your donor area can safely provide, now and in the future
  • The thickness and type of your hair
  • How your hair loss is likely to progress over time

Why a bigger number is not always better

Your donor area is limited. Taking too many grafts in one go can thin it noticeably and leave less for the future. A good plan balances the result you want now with what you may need later.

Questions to ask about a graft estimate

  • How did you work out this number for me?
  • Is it an estimate from photos, or after an in-person assessment?
  • Could it change on the day, and would the price change?
  • How much donor supply would I have left afterwards?

See what a quote should include and FUE or DHI.

How Turwel helps

We help you get estimates from partner clinics and compare them on the same basis, including how each number was worked out. We do not estimate grafts ourselves; that is the clinic's role. See hair transplant in Türkiye.
