What does a medical travel advisor do, and do I need one?
A medical travel advisor, sometimes called a medical tourism agency, helps you plan treatment abroad: understanding your options, introducing providers, arranging consultations, travel and accommodation, and staying in touch afterwards. It does not treat you or give medical advice. You do not need one, but a good advisor can save time and help you avoid common mistakes.

What a good advisor does
- Helps you work out the questions to ask before you commit
- Introduces providers it has checked, and explains how it checks them
- Arranges an online consultation with the provider where available
- Makes sure the treatment plan, quote and aftercare are clear and in writing
- Organises hotels, transfers and help during your stay
- Helps keep communication with the provider going after you return home
What an advisor should not do
- Tell you whether a treatment is suitable for you. Only the clinicians who assess you can do that.
- Promise results or guarantee outcomes
- Pressure you with time-limited offers or push you to book quickly
- Hide who will actually treat you

- How do you choose the providers you work with?
- Who will treat me, and can I speak to them before I travel?
- How are you paid, and does that affect which provider you recommend?
- What happens if I have a problem after I get home?
- What is included in your service, and what is not?
