Veneers or crowns: what is the difference?
A veneer is a thin shell bonded to the front of a tooth. A crown is a cap that covers the whole tooth, and usually needs more of the natural tooth to be removed. They are not interchangeable: crowns are mainly for damaged or weakened teeth. Before agreeing a plan, ask the dentist exactly which you are getting and why.

Both may need repair or replacement in the future, and both need good oral hygiene and regular dental checks.
Why the difference matters
Crowns on healthy teeth, offered as a "smile makeover", can mean removing much more natural tooth than you expected. Make sure you understand what will be done to each tooth, and that the plan is based on an examination, not only on photos.

- Are you proposing veneers or crowns, on which teeth, and why?
- How much natural tooth will be removed from each tooth?
- Are there less invasive options, such as whitening, bonding or orthodontics?
- What material is proposed, and how long might it last before it needs attention?
- What happens if a veneer or crown fails after I get home?
