Can dental implants be done in one trip?

Not always. Implant treatment can involve several stages, such as assessment, any extractions or bone grafting, placing the implant, healing time and fitting the final crown, bridge or denture. Some of these may need separate visits. The dentist should tell you how many trips are likely in your case before you book any travel.

What decides how many visits I need?

Your plan depends on your oral health, your jawbone, the number and position of missing teeth and other individual factors. Some patients need additional procedures such as bone grafting. These are clinical decisions for your dentist or implant clinician after examining you.

What should I ask the dentist?

  • How many stages and visits do you expect in my case, and how long between them?
  • Will I need extractions, bone grafting or other procedures first?
  • What will I have in place between visits?
  • Who carries out the surgical part and who carries out the restorative part?
  • Which implant system and restoration are you proposing?
  • What maintenance and checks will I need at home?

Planning more than one trip

If the dentist expects two or more visits, ask for the likely dates early so you can plan time off work and travel. Turwel can coordinate accommodation and transfers for each visit. Implants also need ongoing care and regular dental checks once you are home, so it helps to keep your dentist at home informed.
